When selecting a contractor, investigate the following:
Is the contractor licensed with Labor & Industries?
Check here.
You can view any past judgments here, also.
Is their Industrial Insurance account for employee
injuries current ?
Check here.
You and / or your homeowner's insurance company may be
liable for injuries if certain employees have no Industrial Insurance
coverage.
Are they a "jack of all trades - master of none?" or do they specialize in specific fields?
Do they have a written Accident Prevention Plan and Fall
Prevention Plan to protect employees?
These items are required by Washington law.
Are they capable of completing your project in a timely manner and to your satisfaction?
What kind of experience do they have with jobs similar to yours, and how long have they been doing it?
Do they present options to help save you money or create a better finished product?
Is there a written contract/proposal explaining what is going to be done and for what price?
Will construction debris be cleaned up daily?
Do they answer your questions adequately?
You need to choose a contractor with the qualifications to get the job done on time and on budget and with whom you trust.
